Candles of a different sort.

It's the day after Candlemas--and it's my birthday! Yes, that's the kind of bonfire you get when you light thirty-eight (already?!) candles.

  3. Well Tammy, it would have to happen sooner or later. I was at work yesterday and my boss asked me if I wanted a cup of earl grey tea. I thought I was going to teach her something about bergamot but she already knew (being Australian/English). She said the best earl grey she ever had came from India from those very frangrant oranges. My question to you is "do those special oranges have to come from India or anywhere else?"

  4. The bergamot with the best reputation comes from Calabria (Italy). There is also good quality bergamot to be found in Turkey.

My guess is that her wonderful experience was due more to the high quality of the tea leaves themselves. There is such a wide range of tea quality out there, but to my knowledge India is not a source of bergamot.

Alternately, there are a number of Earl grey-style teas out there, some of which can really wow a person. Kusmi Tea (Paris, since 1867, check them out online), in addition to being packaged in completely adorable tins, have Troika (which has bergamot and mandarine) and Earl Grey Polish Blend, which in addition to bergamot, has lemon and lime.

Hope this makes for stimulating office talk!

  5. Thanks for the info Tammy.
No office talk though. I am always on a movie or TV set. The conversation was taken outside the Greystone mansion in Beverly Hills (check it out) for the next David Fincher movie. Funny, I have a box of Kusmi green jasmine. I brought it back from Hawaii (my ex-in-laws live on Kauai).

  6. Happy belated Birthday! I was thinking that was a lot of candles to blow out. Then realized, I'm not that far behind. :P

I've been meaning to read your archives to see how you ended up in France! And I totally spazzed out about adding you to the VNese bloggers list. Have just done so now.

    Have a safe flight.
